NEW IN 2026
Welcome to All Hands Sailing Co. – Boston’s new youth program for maritime history, teambuilding, and engineering aboard a traditional tall ship!
Step aboard the beautiful wooden schooner Liberty Star and go back in time to the glory days of sail – when only the wind, the tide, and your fellow crewmates could bring you home safely. During your time onboard, our enthusiastic educators and professional crew will cover topics which can include:
- Using mechanical advantage to raise sails
- Physics of sail and the Bernoulli Principle
- Navigation using a nautical chart, triangulating position
- Using technology to your advantage at sea
- How Boston Harbor and the maritime industry has changed through the centuries
- Knot tying and marlinspike seamanship
- Interpreting weather patterns
We emphasize the importance of communication and the necessity of teamwork to get the job done. Both onboard the ship and in life: No one can raise the sails alone!
Captain Troy (JD, BS) and Monica (MSN, BA), owners of the Liberty Fleet, have many years of direct experience with youth sail training. They have previously worked with Ocean Classroom, Living Classroom, Oliver Hazard Perry, Amistad America, Los Angeles Maritime Institute, Schooner Inc, and World Ocean School. They have practical experience with what works (and what doesn’t!) when it comes to youth sail training, and are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring their vision to a new organization in Boston Harbor!
Our programming is geared towards students ages 12-18 and we can accommodate groups of up to 25-30. We offer educational sails from 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm on weekdays from May-September.
